The time for electromobility is now

The share of all-electric vehicles has increased rapidly in Germany recently. There are many reasons for this and they are further accelerated in particular by the obligation to provide charging infrastructure, various funding programmes and financial incentives (for example, 0.5% financial advantage for hybrid vehicles and 0.25% for purely electric vehicles), up to €9,000 in state funding thanks to innovation premiums from the state, significantly lower list prices and increasing range. The fact that vehicle models are becoming more diverse and attractive, as well as the growing evidence of advancing climate change, also play a major role.

For more and more owners of electrically powered vehicles, this means above all: Changing needs and expectations due to new mobility. Real estate companies, project developers, businesses, filling stations and fleet operators must increasingly cater to these needs with suitable charging infrastructure solutions. There are also major opportunities for other companies to combine their service offering with a station for electric mobility.

The integration of charging infrastructure is becoming mandatory

The German government aims to install one million charging points for electric cars by 2030. To achieve this goal, it plans to aggressively expand the charging infrastructure with a range of measures that are summarised in the Charging Infrastructure Master Plan.

For example, it wants to promote the expansion of the charging infrastructure by means of a ‘supply requirement’ at filling stations, which makes filling station operators responsible for providing charging points for their customers.

According to the draft law of the GEIG (Building Electric Mobility Infrastructure Act)*, a preparatory wiring infrastructure will be mandatory for new buildings or conversions of existing buildings with more than ten parking spaces. The draft stipulates that a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles must be included in applications or building notifications after 10 March 2021.
